The Senate has begun debate on the confirmation of Judge Michael Mukasey to be Attorney General. A vote later this evening is possible. It may be closer than it should be, but I expect Judge Mukasey to be confirmed.
The confirmation of Judge Michael B. Mukasey to be the next Attorney General of the United States seems certain with the announcement by Democratic Senators Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein that they will support Judge Mukasey.
Michael Mukasey got the support of two key Senate Democrats. Chuck Schumer and Dianne Feinstein both indicated they will vote for Mukasey.
GOP USA has an idea of who the top five contenders are for the Attorney General position being vacated by Alberto Gonzales. I think that the President will take his time making this pick. I don't know if it makes sense to select Michael Chertoff, with a Democratic Congress. That just means we would have two confirmation battles to go through.
